You can install the pump and the flow monitor on either the hot or cold side. so it doesn’t matter, you have both options, install it based on your personal opinion.

Before Installing:

  • You’ll need to make sure the arrows on the pump and the flow monitor are pointing in the direction of flow, meaning upon the cold side and down on the hot side.
  • Make sure you have turned off the heater and properly drained the pipes.

Point: For this guide, we will install the Pump on the hot waterside.

Step #1: First, install a 3/4 inch coupling on the hot water outlet and wrap the male threads on the outlet with Teflon tape and/or pipe dope. 

Step #2: Use a wrench to tighten and screw the 3/4 inch union onto the hot water outlet.

Step #3: Next, wrap the mail threads on the inlet side of the pump with Teflon tape and or pipe dope. With the arrow on the pump facing down the inlet side of the pump is the top. 

Step #4: Screw the pump into the coupling and turn the pump until.

Step #5: Install the Flow Monitor and insert one of the washers we have

included into the female end of the Flow Monitor. Screw the Flow Monitor onto the outlet side of the pump. 

Note: The connection does not need Teflon tape or pipe dope

as this is a gasket fitting. The Flow Monitor is a switch that activates the

pump whenever hot water is being used. 

Step #6: Screw a flexible water heater supply line onto the Flow Monitor, or if you are hard-piping the installation, use a three-quarter inch female adapter. 

At this point, we recommend turning the water back on slowly to test all of your connections. If there are any leaks, you will need to repair them before proceeding. 

Step #7: To complete the installation, insert the connector from the Flow Monitor into the rocker switch in the pump’s electric cord. 

The connectors should be inserted with the tiny clip on the Move side of

the receptacle. 

Step #8: Finally, plug the pump and the water heater into an

electric outlet.
